At my Hotel Location, we display the following flags: USA, Canada, Company Brand. Recently during a bad storm, the Canada Maple Leaf flag that was up since late 2007 was victim to the winds and rain. As for the USA flag, we take old destroyed ones to a local VFW, where can I take this Canadian flag to give it the same treatment?
Canada doesn’t have the same flag destruction formality that is commonly found in the US. All our traditional protocol states is that the flag should be disposed of in a respectful manner. In most cases it’s as simple as just quietly tossing it in a fireplace, a bucket with some lighter fluid or on a camp fire. If you wanted to take it to your local VFW Post I’m sure they would treat it the same way they do with an American flag and, personally speaking, that would be appreciated but its not like anything special has to be done to it.
