Hi, I live in US with a husband and 3 kids. I am thinking about living in Europe for a while in some quiet place, but close to the city. What is the best country to live with good schools, people, healthcare, culture, etc? May be UK or Switzerland?
good healthcare and social security are in the scandinavian countries like sweden ,norway and people are nice too ,most are educated and have old traditions.. uk is not that good for your kids since most teens in uk have serious problems with alcohol and drugs they have no family values and immigrants are also a problem like street gangs (like bradford)
switzerland is multilangual country with 3 nations french german and italians ,income for capita is high and has a good environment like beautiful forests and mountains like alps
small countries like belgium, luxembourg, switzerland are good and have state social benefits and strong economy but it is HARD to have permission i don’t know your situation.
big countries have lots of immigrants and foreigners are not really wellcomed there especially after this crisis because of the unemployment.
switzerland ,belgium ,luxembourg and scandinavian countries are the best ones to live since you don’t need visa in euro zone you can visit others anytime you want.

Saygin does not mentio probably te best country in Europe – France, for a life that is still good. If you are retired it is great. But, like all EU countries, it is really in trouble financially. Greece is likely bankrupt. France, Italy, Germany among others, fiddle the books to cover their huge fiscal problems.
But, for quality of life in the rural areas, there is nothing to beat France. As for the comment re UK from Saygin – I do not know what he thinks is happening. UK is still a wonderful place to live, especially if you work. A bit on the expensive side in some places – avoid London, for instance, which is not the best – but again the smaller towns have lots to offer and UK is rising from te recession a lot faster tha other EU countries. (FT figures show this)
So, take a good look at the places that have lots to offer, depending on your needs. And, if you speak French and have a good qualification, France will welcome you.
And, though I have never been there, New Zealand just begs to be looked at. Laid back, some say backward, but still worth a close look.
saint petersburg russia… you will never find place like this trust me the best! and most beautiful and the most culture place on earth
I have to reply to the comment mentioned by above about drugs and alcohol in teh uk. saying. For Example Norway has the highest suicide rate due to alcohol and drug consumption in europe among young people. Also most of the Scandinavian countries have a high Alcohol consumption rate for under 30′s.
I think teh issue is not the country but if you decide to live in a large Urban Area. Also it is very hard to avoid such things, and only good parenting will help prevent that.
I Admit London has issues but nothing compared with some the Outskirts of Paris, the Ghettos outside palermo where drug addiction is everywhere.
it is true that london it’s not the best place to bring kids to live in specially in south london!! to much crimes gangs non working immigration really not good for family with childern to rise in this city do ur best search before you take you first choice,
all the best of luck.
I must express that some of these responses are quite narrow minded and ignorant. Hence, ignorance is a result of simply not being aware, and unexperienced with cultural diversity. A true city is made up of people from different socio-economic, religious, ethnic and racial backgrounds. I would say, yes London and other major cities like London may not be 100 percent safer than more or less diverse and smaller cities. This would be a result form of decades of over population; influx of population verses a low employment ratio over a span of time do to various economic shifts. Such as our current economic crisis. This has nothing to do with different races and immigrants being innately violent. In fact , places such as London, Paris, and Amsterdam have embraced immigrants for many years; during the late nineteenth century all the way up into the 1950′s because they relied on CHEAP LABOR FROM IMMIGRANTS which replaced JEWS; CHINESE, INDIANS, NORTH AFRICANS and AFRO CARRIBEANS to work in European factories. It was cheap labor in places as London, Paris and Amesterdam which use marketing power to attract these immigrants to work for cheap and to live in squalor conditions, hence, ghettos (former Jewish communities)which led to poverty, bad health and crime. Now, after the 1960′s many of these places started to change due to a high influx of over population and and lack of employment opportunities created a volatile attitude between the native population and the immigrants living in these cities. So, remember London has its issues but it is one of the best cities to live for anyone who plans to develop a”global” perspective. The world is changing and becoming more international and as people we must learn to live with various conditions or will be left behind in the DARK AGES.
