Which will be the best country to live in 30 years?

March 9th, 2010

I’m sure it is possible to make a prediction, based on an equation like "least likelihood of war/ famine/ nuclear and natural desasters/ civil war/ poverty" plus "best placed for constant, economical growth/ stable politics/ security/ climate change outlook".

Personally, and I am the first to admit I am a complete amateur, I would put my money on Australia first and Brazil second, and I would also consider Russia and China.

What would you think?
Are there even studies out on this somewhere?

It will be Australia.

Better place to live: Ireland or United Kingdom?

March 2nd, 2010

I’m currently getting my bachelors in NYC and I’m really considering going to Europe for grad school. Most likely I’ll enter a program that is 1-2 years. Been to Asia, and would love to see what Europe is like. I’m not fluent in anything other than English hence why I’d choose between the two. England has an edge with the better schools but other than that which country would I get the best experience living in?

Both Ireland and UK have great Education systems. But you say you’re only considering them, as you don’t have any other language.

You can actually go and study in a few European countries, with instruction in English, so you don’t need to know the language at all. The countries that I know definitely have University programs in English are:

Belgium
Netherlands
Luxemburg
Denmark
Finland
Sweden
Germany
Malta
Switzerland
Norway

Most of the courses offered in full English Instruction are Bachelor Degrees, Masters and PhD

So if you really want Europe, try one of those countries, also as a bonus, by being in Study there for 2 years you will end up picking up the langauge. So not only will you go home with an extra qualification, you’ll probably go home with a second language too.

Good Luck

Why is America the best country to live in??

March 2nd, 2010

I want to prove something to my older cousin who came here for college and still thinks europe is the best place ever…….UGH >:(

Have you ever been outside of the U.S.? You don’t know what is great about the U.S. until you see other places. IMHO, the best thing about the U.S. is peanut butter :)

It’s very possible that your cousin’s just homesick. If you haven’t been away from home for a long time before, you might not understand. She might need to have someone listen to her and try to make her feel better, rather than having someone lecture her about how wrong she is.

Where do you live and ….?

March 2nd, 2010

1) What country do you live in?
2) What do you like about living there?
3) What don’t you like about living there?
4) Where would you rather live (or what is your second choice)?

I’ll start:

I live in Canada.

I like the unrealized opportunity it presents. I like the values that are praised here – modesty, integrity, loyalty – and our idealistic policies. I like how we can maintain a public healthcare system with relatively low taxes. The value of family over wealth. Our attitude with the rest of the world.

I don’t like the cost of realizing that opportunity. The education system, while excellent, is extremely costly. The costs of making it big. This lends an image of not the best country to realize a dream. Unless your dream is family-oriented. Our image of insignificance, due to our small population.

Canada would be my first choice (I’ve only traveled to the US, so maybe I don’t know better yet). I’d like to visit New Zealand for the scenery, might be a nice place to retire. European countries for this history, although I’m not sure about living there for economic reasons.

Yours?
Yeah, i guess asking this on the American board isn’t asking for variety lol
Oh, pardon me bmovie…

I live in Fantasy Land

I like how we can maintain a public healthcare system with relatively low taxes.

I don’t like how people can insult my intelligence about a place I live, work and prosper in.

If I had a choice, I’d live in….Canada. Since according to you it is so much like Fantasy Land anyway ;)

1. USA
2. I like all the food and how people come to together were you live and everyone can just be good friends.
3. Wars, and some very mean people.
4.AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
