Is America the best country to live in?

by admin on June 4, 2009

In America we never learn about other countries. We only learn about how great America is and that other country isn't so important. I mean we are always helping other poor countries with war and giving them food. I don't think any other country does that.

Also everyone knows about america (sometimes even more than us) but we don't really know anything about the world. For example, is europe a country and britain a state??? Like how America is a country and california is a state??

Also look at our movies they are always played everywhere, we never see any foreign films ever in our movie theaters. Even our artists travel around the world and everyone knows them but I don't think any of us know anything about other countries' artists. Why is America such a dominant country compared to everyone else?? Do you think America is the best country too?
Also I can honestly say my television has NEVER had a program on it that was from europe or other country. We only have american stations.
Also what the heck is the difference from UK and europe??

According to the bbc the best countries to live in are:
1 Ireland
2 Switzerland
3 Norway
4 Luxembourg
5 Sweden
6 Australia
7 Iceland
8 Italy
9 Denmark
10 Spain

I personally dont agree with this. i lived in Northern Ireland and therefore has had experience from both countries. and i would prefer Britan.

I dont agree however that america has no influence from other countries. you only have to switch on to any american program to find some association from other english speaking countries especially Britain. Harry Potter, 007?

My top 6 list would be from my own experience.
1.Canada
2.Australia
3.Scotland
4.England
5.Italy
6.USA

I never met nicer people in the world than in Canada,Italy, and Australia.

I never have been so overwhelmed with history than in Scotland,England,Italy, and Canada.

I never lived so cheap than in the USA with the exception of New Brunswick Canada where I live now but as a country as a whole USA takes it hands down.

I can’t judge other countrys on education because I only furthered mine in Australia. just great it was.

I never got so drunk than in Scotland!!!.

I never did some much shit in one day that would take a normal person a week than in the USA. lol lots to do thats for sure.

I never hunted in a better area than in BC Canada. but to show respect I never been hunting in Alberta and only hunted in maine USA which suched all they do there is sit in a tree stand lol.

when I was in edinburgh Scotland there was this cemetery and I along with others were walking through it and I decided it was time for a smoke so I try to light one but it wouldn’t light and there was no wind what so ever and after a while when we decided it was time to head out I step out of the cemetery and try to light it again and it lit right up. thinking this was pretty cool I stepped into the cemetery and lit the lighter and it wouldn’t work and this is a brand new one to. so I stepped out the cemetery again and lit the lighter and moved the open flame over the cemetery gate and as soon as the lighter was in the cemetery ground it blew out. I did this several times because I was awfully drunk and it was like the greatest thing lol pretty sweet none the less.

I never been clubbing where the woman were overly “nice” lol to say the least than in England.

I could go on for hours I have been to these places more than a few times some more than others but none the less I don’t think I would change my list any time soon.

I will say if I ever had the funds I would own a house in everyone of them countrys because they all have somthing different to offer.
but im just a screenwriter in Canada/USA lol.
peace.

I’ve lived in many countries and I can say America is not the best place to live. At least not
if you want to create a family or a circle of friends. People are rude, greedy and selfish. America was a good place to make a living but nowadays you can’t make a decent living anymore, unless you are a movie actor or connected to the government. Poverty is increasing and the difference between the poor and the rich is making America look like a third world country.. America is in decline if you haven’t noticed. Can’t wait to get out of here.

melissa April 26, 2010 at 8:16 pm

the US should put up a sign “gone fishin’”.. a little hiatus to clean house in the meantime stop all immigration (oh sure you may leave if you like), no more financial or any type of assistance provided out of US, no more import of ‘Made in China” o “Hecho in Mexico” and my favorite (though such the pipe dream) no more foreign oil. Just a pipe dream to purge the corruption. US will be a third world country within a geneartion or two…pretty close already. Hey greece gets bailied out every ten years or so..who will come to our rescue..our ‘Allies’..lol

I live in America, and I have always been frustrated about your very complaint. Our sense of nationalism (disguised by the word “patriotism”) is an aspect of our country that seems to have only been present in communist nations. Though I am only a sophomore in High school, I have been to many other nations and have made an effort to intermingle with people from Ukraine, Germany, Romania, and Ireland. I can say that the UK is a union between Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, and Wales. Most of Europe is part of the EU. It is unfortunate that we blindly puff ourselves up by instilling pride in out nation at a VERY young age. I have trouble bringing it to anyone’s attention, because I always get shot down. the truth is that we have a shoddy education system, a huge national debt (with low taxes), and very few government operated policies. I will let readers be the judge of which of those facts are good or bad. One perk is how easy it is to work you way from the bottom to the top, assuming you give up most of your selflessness and decency along the way. It is also very difficult to unintentionally go hungry here, which is an obvious perk. I’m not saying the we are or aren’t the best, but I am saying that it is quite… poor to make prejudice of other nations that we are completely oblivious of. I recommend that you expand your horizons to other places just to meet the people and decide for yourself whether or not we truly are the best.

Half of the people talking about how stupid others are can’t even spell correctly. No one country is better than the other. They all have there ups and downs and to think that people can’t find there own country on a map is just naive. I hope you don’t believe everything you hear, or this worlds in worse shape than I could ever imagine. You always hear that the French are wimps, not true, or the Irish are drunks maybe some, but no worse than anyone else. It just seems to me that people that accuse others of being intolerant, rude or any other negative accusations, well I guess they need to look in the mirror. You are participating in the same activities. HYPOCRITES. I’m sorry there are so many of you. Your ignorance shines through any decent point you may have. BTW my country of choice would be Tonga.

Freddie jones August 5, 2010 at 8:40 pm

The ignorance of the first article is the reason that so many non americans are so disdainful of americans. You don’t think any other country helps out in wars or gives money! This just displays your ignorance of anything outside of america. Ireland is the top charitable donator in the world – per capita – that means per person. I wouldn’t normally feel the need to explain that. I won’t bash america I actually enjoy and admire many of its facets, – but it is not an icon for the world to follow. In most northern european countries – nobody has to worry about basic accommodation, food, education or health care. The basics of human living are guaranteed and provided by the state for all who can not do so for themselves. There is a social responsibility – where the weaker members are entitled to be protected. This is the mark of a truly advanced country. Where opportunity for education and advancement are offered at all levels of society – advancement not necessarily equating to greed. Also a sense of fun in a country is a great asset – at the end of the day we are all only here for a short time – we should at least have some fun while we are here.

John Rycroft October 13, 2010 at 2:16 pm

I lived in Spain for 2 years and I can say that unless you spoke their language fluently you were always treated like a tourist and only welcome if you were spending money.
I live in the U.K and I think you will always feel there could be better places to live, and then you think about the family and friends you leave behind?

United State not even as a present..No thank you!

Gia December 15, 2010 at 7:28 am

Hello- sorry i need to ask what school you went to? You don’t even know the difference between a country and a continent? Did you not have Geography in grade school? I must say if you are a fellow american i am deeply embarrassed that you and i share the same country!
Have you ever watched PBS? or national geography channel? Lots of information and shows from around the world.
Even the history channel can enlighten you further.
When i went to school we learned all about history involving other countries !Not to mention every school offers a foreign language class as an elective.
I am thinking you must not have paid attention very well.Or maybe you spent your life under a rock. Sorry if i sound mean but your embarrassing to this country! Gina

jenifer January 12, 2011 at 9:36 pm

To Freddie Jones….the point of the 1st comment was to “show” that we (US) do not know that much about any other country but our own. We do not have foreign television shows, unless we watch BBC. Sure we know about a few foreign actors but only because they are/were in a film that did well in the US. So while there are plenty of wonderful things that can be pointed said about other countries, we simply just don’t know. And for Gia… I have watched plenty of programs on the History channel or National Geographic, you can’t honestly think that 2 or 3 shows spotlighting any specific county is an accurate assessment of what life is really like in that specific country. 2nd, sure we learned a lot about other countries in school. Mostly about wars and what lead to the build of the US. It’s biased.

Lachlan Wilson January 15, 2011 at 6:39 am

AUSTRALIA is clearly the best country in the world. Based on Health, Infrastructure, Quality of life, Sports, Leisure, should have just said everything. Anything your country has we got and much better. but besides the “lucky country”.

My top 5 is:
AUSTRALIA
New Zealand
Canada
Ireland
USA

Tony February 13, 2011 at 7:19 am

I love the American Spirit, the best thing i’ve ever felt anywhere, i wish i was in the U.S. now!

Alex March 29, 2011 at 5:13 am

Hello! How old are you?

Europe helps a shitload of people with food and war, do you think FN is U.S.A only? No, it’s not. FN and Nato is alot more countries than the U.S! There’s a lot more countries that helps in wars and U.S is not even on the fucking list of best trained soldiers in the world. Now get som facts about war.

They choose the different countries by these qualifications and not by television programs you moron:

GDP
Health
Education

Now a lot of people in the U.S dies because the country is shit and healthcare programs suck.

GDP because a lot of you guys are poor and Norway is one of the richest countries by people.

Education, well you know nothing about any other countries, that means you’re dumb as shit and you think television is the only thing in the world.

brett March 30, 2011 at 6:31 pm

Fellow Americans, america was great when there were slaves and women didn’t have rights. Miss the good ole days.

Nathan April 6, 2011 at 12:53 am

Gina I am embarrassed to be even in the same continent as you. Lecturing others on education when you can not even spell your own name right.

Others lecturing this guy, the US government likes glorifying itself, already very obvious. Good old Bush set up requirements for schools to teach even more “history” of the US.

Julian April 15, 2011 at 4:04 pm

It is a funny fact that you only think about English- speaking countries in your lists..

Open your mind, there are other places in the world! Travel to :
Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Finland ,..

Then you will probably make a better choice!

Nel May 4, 2011 at 7:09 am

I still think USA is the best country to live in. You can’t beat a lifestyle convenience and abundance of products and produce in the world. I travelled to many places but nothing beats the U.S.

JD May 8, 2011 at 4:17 pm

This is an interesting discussion. As a kid, no matter what else was going on in my life, I could always smile at the fact that I was blessed to live in the greatest state (California) in the greatest country in the world (USA) and I started as a homeless kid, worked my tail off, attended top school for undergrad and grad and served in two wars. Now I’m just not really feeling it.

Maybe it was 8 years of GW Bush that just seemed to drag this nation down the toilet. Maybe it was losing the love of my life and just getting burned out trying to win her back for the last decade or so. Maybe it is just feeling that with the national debt, imperialist wars in which I served, a retarded immigration policy that has literally transmogrified my California home town into Northern Tijuana and has bankrupted my once great state. All of California is sorry that Mexico is so crappy – but our open immigration policy has made parts of California nearly indistinguishable from Tijuana. The crap has migrated and spread.

Maybe I’m just becoming an old “kids today” fart but I’m mid 30s, still have a six pack, and don’t feel old…just a bit disillusioned. As for immigration, I’m coming to the “if you can’t beat em’ join em’ perspective and looking at other nations to call home. Unlike the good old US, every other nation worth anything actually has standards for their immigrants and expects those coming to their nation to contribute to it in a positive way – what a concept. Kind of looking forward to a change but not sure what to expect. Oh well, the unexamined life is not worth living.

rick May 15, 2011 at 3:46 am

i’m glad everyone has his own mind to think negative or positive. over all, i served in the marine corp for over 20 years, but i think if african people get alone, they will have the best place to live because they everything
we need to have better live in all over the world.
i’m an american living in las vegas after my retirement
but i wish i was african even i am white!!!

Niontiin May 16, 2011 at 3:18 am

When people state that America is the best country in the world to live in, i ask them if they have ever been to Norway? It got all the nature without the deserts, it got the economy without the debt, you got the freedom without being sued. And if anything should happen to you, you get help without having an insurance.

Best of all, just like America, everybody got the right to pursue their own happiness. People doesn’t wear guns, neither do the criminals. (yes, really) And if you totally crash economically (as in screw up no matter the amount), you can get a five year plan from the government where you pay what you manage beside having what you need for living, going personal bankrupt (you live and spend like a normal person). And after those five years, you’re a free man.

Stating that America is the best country in the world to live in, without knowing any of the other 195 or so countries in the world. It’s ignorance.

Note: Not saying that Norway is the best country in the world to live in. The people there ain’t famous for being warm and welcoming for example. It all depends on what you’re looking for. Personally i love Ireland. If they one day get to solve their economical problem i’d most likely place them at the top of my own list.

Horrified Reader June 12, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Oh my good lord.

I stumbled upon this by accident and good god the small-mindedness, the feckless ignorance, the horrifying lack of knowledge exemplifies why the US has such a bad reputation abroad.

I know some great, well-travelled, intelligent Americans. Sadly, the author of this article is not one of them.

Robert July 6, 2011 at 5:49 am

Well, speaking as a person that lives outside the United States I can say that the ‘Unitedstatesians’ are very blinkered when it comes to the rest of the world. Other countries are very charitable and offer assistance, but is it good brag about helping in wars? Wars that have probably been instigated by American politics, covert objectives etc. I’ll go a step further and say that after a recent visit to the United States I couldn’t get over the high amount of pro-USA propaganda, which can be heard and seen almost everywhere.

Tran July 29, 2011 at 6:27 pm

Canada is the best social place because is so nice, never met nicer people. I currently live in north Carolina, and red necks and racist people are too common. I am Vietnamese and I can never go anywhere without being mad fun of. I use to live in california and that was a improvement cause Asian is the domanant race.cans Asians give crap to whites. I have lived in Canada and am moving back soon. I have never been in a better place. Canada is like the benefits of bent American ( free speech, freedom, solid economy). And has extremely nice people.
1 Canada
2 sweden (party animals)
3 UK
4 Germany
5 France (people are nice but shy)

Louis August 26, 2011 at 1:48 pm

I agree to some of the facts that are cited above. I don’t know if it has been the same but I noticed that people are not so nice here, a little rude and selfish. They barely talked to each other on the streets, everybody is afraid of everybody. I guess it’s because of the rate of violence and crimes that people are on a way avoiding each other.
And for the people who said America is a continent let me tell you something: It’s true that is a continent but when people say “America” they are nothing about all the countries on the continent, according to the Monroe doctrine only people living in the USA are Americans.
PS: Have you noticed that “American” is the only nationality on the world that is not based on the name of the country?

Martin October 2, 2011 at 3:28 am

Yes people around the globe will say that USA is getting poor and poverty is increasing but those who say this will be stuned one day to see the best nation in the world reterning to its position again and then like the olden days people will rush to USA and those who said that USA is full of poverty and is becoming a third standard country will alo rush to USA for money and I can sense it that day is not far away

ralph October 4, 2011 at 2:38 pm

My list:
1. USA
2.Chile
3.Switzerland
4.Australia
5.Canada
6.Britain
7.Germany
I still love the US and on its face, it’s a great place to live. I know for sure that its better than Europe because I’ve grown up there and that doesn’t leave many well-functioning democracies. And Canada and Australia are great too but I dislike their politics. Of course, (annoying) people will say the US is no well-functioning democracy, but that’s just horse-crap, here you’re still freer and more independent of government than in most countries around the planet.

P November 17, 2011 at 11:40 am

“here you’re still freer and more independent of government than in most countries around the planet.”

Typical retarded American answer. Freer from what? Freer from the crooks you guys have set up into to your government? The United States of A is a country going down the drain, piece by piece. Smell the coffee and wake up from the once-upon-a-time American dream. THAT DREAM IS OVER. Your government is taking your economy down. When I turn on TV, watch the news and look at how MESSED UP your country has become and how Americans are getting screwed over by their politicians and governors and all, I feel safe on the European continent. How someone can still believe America is still a great country is just mind-boggling. I can’t wait for the day the new generation will wake up to the legacy left by the people heading up this country. It’s going to be quite comical. Millions of young realizing they have to pay off astronomical debts thanks to what I call the “Ponzi scheme” aka Operation Twist put in place by the Federal Bank hand in hand with the Government, corrupted through the core. Ahahahahaha….. LOLOL! I hope to living long enough to witness that.

Seriously guys… medias are duping you. Those who don’t want to acknowledge it are either dumb or blind.

And stop BS’ing about how rich you can get in the US. It’s officially over since September 2008, the day the NYSE crashed and hit rock bottom. I’m 24 and grew up on the European continent. Looking back, maybe 10 years ago, I’d have gone and made my life there. I spent 2 years in England, from 2009 to 2011, and came to the conclusion the entire Anglosphere is wrecked: all the English speaking countries have their economy based on the US. Americans are somewhat calling the shots money-wise and if their economy tanks, well.. England, Australia and all plunge too. If you read this message and planning to move to an English speaking country, DONT! Move to any other country but an English speaking. The next 25 years will be China’s revenge over Western civilizations. You can’t keep producing cheap stuff “made in China” for ever. They are taking over control of the world in the same fashion the US did during the post-WII period. Slowly but surely.
