I found out the most Filipinos who migrated to the different countries around the world still prefer to go back to the Philippines. I need your thoughts.
Yes, I’m a Filipino by birth and want to settle back in the Philippines someday or spend half of the year there and the rest here in the US. There’s always the hunger to be back home and enjoy everything that Philippines has to offer from families, friends, food, sights and beaches.
Other than Panama, what countries have the best overall advantages for USA citizen to retire?

immigrants or illegals, big difference. hopefully illegals do not make it to retire!

I don’t know what I would do. I was born in Colombia but raised here. It would really depend on how the America is at the time of retirement. I want to live a peaceful life in retirement so it would just depend on where I would feel most peaceful.

when you apply for permanent residence than you are promising to LIVE in your new country – NOT to abandon it when things get too tough to deal with.

My parents are mexicans I was born here but if i retire Iam going to Mexico same with my parents……..

I hear the same answer about Mexicans. Legal residents will go home to Mexico at retirement. They say their money will go alot further there and they already have homes and family there.
Because they are legal residents they are eligible for Social Security and so are their spouses.
It’s just a guess, but Mexico didn’t allow dual citizenship, which would prohibit the mexican national from voting in their own country if they became US citizens. Pres. Fox is working to change that.
You would have dual citizens voting in mexico and the US. Talk about fright nite.

Yes – I’m one of them. My retirement pension and savings would afford me a comfortable lifestyle there. It would be a struggle if I were to retire here in the US, esp. now with the current economic slump. Just 2 drawbacks: 1) Medicare will not pay for any medical costs in the Philippines and 2) I will miss my children.
And of course, not to mention the stability of the Phil. government.
Other than these 2, I only see positives. It’s a lot easier if you have dollars to spend back there.
I’ll just have to maintain a strict budget.

I’ve made some compromises on the 2: 1) Monitor my health, have a cash emerg. reserve handy, and in a worse case scenario – fly to Guam (about 3 hrs by plane) or fly back to US for emergency surgery.
2) I promise my kids I will visit them in the US once a year.
I also decided I will just rent a condo and not buy. It’s not cost-effective to be buying one.
