Do you think the country you live in is the best place to raise a child?

by admin on April 1, 2009

Why or why not? Where do you think a better place would be?

It's not that I think it's a bad place, it's just different.
I'm Australian and my husband is American. We have a 4yr son and 11m son and moved to the United States from Australia a little over a year ago. We lived in NJ first and then moved to Arizona back in July.
My entire life, I lived in Australia. To tell you the truth, I'm really not a big fan of the United States. It's not that it's "bad", it's just not home to me. I find that people are more friendly in Australia. My boys would have a bit more freedom. Schools were different. Way of live in general was different. I'd rather raise my children there than here. I feel that here, my oldest isn't being forced to grow up WAY too quickly.
I would love to move back, but I really don't see that happening any time soon.

What is the cheapest English speaking country (and city in that country) to live in?

I live in the U.K and think it is one of the 'easiest' places to raise a child at the moment, mainly down to the provision of free, NHS healthcare for pregnancy-birth, unlike in the U.S. or some other countries.

Absolutly! I live in the US which is the best Country out there! :-) They are free, wont have to become slaves or prostitutes, they dont have a King or Queen thats in their business and risking death for disobeying. They wont the risk of getting AIDS or dying from the water they drink.. They can become anything they want to become- the skies the limit.

Good lord no. I am finding too many people get in other's business and want to tell me how to raise my child. I don't know where a better place would be. I would have to say any deserted island.

The country I live in (the US) is really big and diverse, and there are parts of it that are great places to raise a child and parts that are terrible ones. While I happen to be fortunate and have a great situation for raising my children, not everyone in this country is so fortunate. There are countries where things are more equitable, certainly, and countries with more "family-friendly" policies regarding childcare, health care, etc. In this country, how good a place it is to raise a child depends a lot on the economic status of the parents. I'm fortunate to live in a safe, kid-friendly area with excellent schools and access to the outdoors. I'm also fortunate to have an economic situation where I can afford to raise my kids even though I choose to stay home with them. I'm glad to live here. I would probably feel differently if I were raising them in other parts of the country on a single income.

Absolutely! I want my son to appreciate living in the USA and wouldn't want him to miss the opportunities education that he gets here.

That said, part of his education is gaining an understanding, respect, and appreciation for other cultures and languages.

Still, I have known many European and Asian people who value their time in the US and wouldn't have it any other way.

I moved to the United States when I was 5yrs from Italy. I went there every summer and went to college there as well. My husband was also born in Italy, but lived in the US his entire life.
I would LOVE to raise my kids in Italy. It's such a simple, relaxing place. Though I love my country and feel that it has so much to offer, it's a fast pace life. Americans don't enjoy life as much as some countries. We're work to live, constantly rushing etc.
Shops in Italy close at noon and don't open again until 3, 4pm because people are taking naps and eating! Kids have a lot more freedom. I would love to move back, but I'm also happy with where we live now.

This is a great country. What you subject you're child to is the basic outcome .Learning starts in the pregnancy ,so teach them well from the beginning and it will be to the best interest.
A good environment is key ,it's the upbringing This is a good place ,no internal wars .Pretty much free, good education .Good doctors ,there is bad every where .

I'm in Denmark and I'm content enough with the opportunities here for raising children. Both parents get time off work to be with their child after the birth and there's a good sense of 'family focus' as being important.

I don't think there's a 'best' place to raise a child – you do what you can with what you have.

God no! I'm from the US, and I don't like the idea of my kids growing up here.

But then again, This world isn't a very good place to raise children at the moment. You've just got to do the best you can no matter where in the world you are.

I'm not a mom BUT I think that while living in the United States, different states offer different things for everyone. For example; my parents moved from California to Oregon because they thought that raising a child in Oregon would be better than California; better schools, better environment, ect. I think it would be cool to raise a child in Sweeden because they are really big on socialism and taking care of their people.

No (USA) not a good place to live let alone raise a child. I feel like I'm talking about this big dirty ghetto. But no- I'm talking about the entire country.
