What would be the best country in Europe to live in? And which European counties speak English?
And also what ever country you think would be the best country to live in please state why you think that.
The best country in Europe? well that depends of your personal expectations. F.e for me it could be great to live in Switzerland because it is clean and sceninc, for you it could be a hell. Do you like the sunshine then Spain, Italy, Greece… do you like reserved culture but stable people and friendship, then Scandinavians, do you like a very liberal lifestyle… then Scandinavian, parts of UK…. as far English, then England, it is the place where this language has started. Please have in mind that if you choose to live in a non English speaking country then you won't be accepted without the local language. Other English speaking countries Ireland, Scotland.
Apart from that, some European countries have huge unemployment rates and the rest who perform better like UK, France have been affected sadly by the Second Depression. Therefore the European leaders put new laws for non EU immigrants which obligate the EU employees to prefer EU and natives than Asians, Africans…..
It all depends where are you from. If you want to come and live here illegally then please don't do it. If you want to look for a job it could be hard given the economic climate if your subject is banking, housing, financial etc….
Where are you from, this is important. this could define which country could accept you easier.

Switzerland, for cleaness, scenery, polite people
Norway for nature
England for London
Sweden for the liberal life style
Italy for the architecture
Spain for the music and sunshine…
Greece for the islands
and the list goes on…

English is becoming more and more common in more and more countries throughout Europe. Obviously, though, it is spoken the most in the U.K. And with the "best" country to live in, I think thats your own opinion.

Luxembourg.And most countries speak English.Like your question as many that I've seen a work permit is needed and jobs are scarce or hard to find over there.I spent 3 days there and it was beautiful.I'd consider going there again hopefully soon.

The main English speaking country would be ENGLAND and It's NOT IN EUROPE (a common misconception AmeriKans have).
You do know that moving to Europe is not like moving to Iowa or Arizona, right? You can't WORK THERE and, in order to get resident alien status in ANY European country you have to meet their FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS which, basically, is you have to SHOW PROOF that you have an INDEPENDENT INCOME of anywhere from $1000 to $2500 PER MONTH of independent income so you don't ahve to WORK to live there.
Europe has an even HIGHER unemployment rate than the U.S. so you would have a very hard time finding a company that would be willing to swear they needed to hire you because they can't find a local to do the job.
As to the BEST COUNTRY…, I have lived in France, Belgium and England and liked them all, but for different reasons. About 6 years ago I bought a condo in Valencia, Spain and spend a couple of months each year there during the off season because the rental income from that condo is a big part of my retirement income. The rest of the year I live on my boat in Antigua or the old family home in the U.S.

For me the Netherlands is my choice. The society is quite tolerant, friendly, and it has a rich historical past. Most people there do speak English or at least to some degree. Another country I would pick would be France. As a country it is quite 'laid back', has a rich history, and quite democratic. The french I have found can speak English but they will not speak English to you unless you can speak some french. I am not all french people are like that but it can be more difficult to get them to speak English than if you are in other European countries.
The above poster claims that the UK is not a part of Europe and many 'Brits' want to believe that. However it is a part of the European Union and in some parts it is 19 miles from the coast of France. In regards to what countries speak English all European countries generally speak English to some degree. For most people the UK is the most obvious country that speaks English and so is Ireland. Germany, Netherlands, Czechoslovakia, and parts of Spain are also well known for its residents speaking English.
Finally if you are looking to live there then you need to make sure you meet the immigration requirements for entry. Most of Europe, which includes the UK, is going through an economic recession and jobs are difficult to get. Furthermore the UK has strict requirements for work permits which means unless you have a masters degree or a doctorate degree then qualifying for a work permit may be difficult. Other countries you will need to check and if you do want to work there you will also need to speak their native language enough to work. This means, with the exception of the UK, even though 90% of the population speaks English you will need to know enough of their language in order to communicate and get a job. Why? With the exception of the UK most people speak English in varying degrees and in order to survive in a European country, other than the UK, you will need to know the native language too.

in many european countries people speak English. It depend what do you like better, people, weather, culture. I like France and I met many people there who speak English. I never had problem in France for communication. It mostly depended if people are friendly and willing to help you. Another choice are many English "speaking " countries, part of Swiz, Luxemburg, England/of course/, Ireland

They speak English in England. And the rest of the UK, and Republic Ireland.
Most people in the Scandinavian countries speak English, as well, as a second language, but many are very fluent.
And, if you are American, none of them are easy to live in…the EU has made it very difficult for non-EU members to find work, and there is precious little of that for the people who are citizens, there.
