Would it be cheaper to live as an expatriate in a foreign country?

Specifically, a country in South America, Eastern Europe, or Asia. I live in the U.S. And would I be making more, less, or the same money I would be doing the same job as in the U.S.?
It depends if you are working for a US or European company or a local company there.
