Has he not been there to vote in THOSE circumstances? If so, then, what's the problem? His staff is able to do most of his work - as is the case for most senators even when they are NOT ill -. My guess is that most of those who appreciate his service feel that it is preferable to wait and see how long he can continue to function at least at his present level than to pressure him to retire if he does not wish to do so.
